First in ODI cricket for Sri Lanka - Milestones List

Sri Lanka played their first ODI in 1975 against West Indies in England during inaugaral cricket world cup. Lets have a look at some of milestones Sri Lankans achieved as a team and as an individual.

First ODI 
vs West Indies at Old Trafford, Manchester. West Indians won this match by 9 wickets. Lankans were dismissed for just 86 runs thanks to most feared bowling attack in the world. Bernard Julian took 4 wickets for just 20 runs. 3 wickets for Boyce and 2 for "The Hitman" Andy Roberts. 

First Win
First ever win by Sri Lanka registered when they played against India in 1979 Cricket World Cup. It was the first time when an associate country won a match against a test nation.

First Abandoned match
Sri Lanka played their 2nd ODI vs West Indies in 1979 at Kennington Oval. Match was abandoned due to heavy rain.

First ball faced by Former International Cricket Commentator Ranjit Fernando who was the wicket keeper and opener of Sri Lanka in 1975.

First batsman to be dismissed was Ranjit Fernando. Julien was the wicket taker.

Sunil Wettamuny's unbeaten 53 against Australia in 1975 was the first 50 by a Sri Lankan. He was retired out due to an injury caused by Jeff Thomson's bowling. 

First 100
Roy Dias was the first Sri Lankan to score an ODI 100. He achived this feat in 1982 vs India at Feroz Shah Kotla.

First 150
"Master Blaster" Sanath's epic unbeaten 151 against India at Wankhede stadium in 1997 was the first instance of a 150 by a Sri Lankan in ODIs. 

First batsman to be dismissed on 99
Romesh Kaluwitharana was the first Sri Lankan to be dismissed on 99 in ODIs. He was clean bowled by Zimbabwean pacer Henry Olonga at Harare in 1999.

First batsman to be dismissed on 49
Roy Dias was the first Sri Lankan to be dismissed on 49 in ODIs.

First batsman to be dismissed BOWLED was Anura Ranasinghe vs West Indies in 1975

First batsman to be dismissed LBW was Anura Tennekoon vs Pakistan in 1975

First batsman to be dismissed RUN OUT was Sunil Jayasinghe vs New Zealand in 1979

First batsman to be dismissed STUMPED was Bandula Warnapura vs Australia in 1975

The first wicket was taken by D.S. De Silva who took the wicket of Roy Fredericks (WI) in 1975.

First to take 3 wickets was Bandula Warnapura against Pakistan in 1975 at Nottingham.

First to take 4 wickets was Asantha de Mel against England in 1982 at SSC.

First to take 5 wickets was Asantha de Mel against Pakistan in 1983 at Leeds.

First to take 6 wickets was Sanath Jayasuriya against England in 1993 at Moratuwa.

First to take 7 wickets was Muttiah Muralitharan against India in 2000 at Sharjah.

First and Only bowler in the world to take 8 wickets was Chaminda Vaas against Zimbabwe in 2001 at SSC.

First Hatrick
First Sri lankan to take a hatrick in ODIs is Chaminda Vaas against Zimbabwe in 2001.

5 wickets on debut
Uwaisul Karnain is the first bowler to take 5 wickets on his debut in 1984 against New Zealand at Moratuwa. 

First Maiden
D.S. De Silva's spell against West Indies included a maiden as well. It was the first maiden by a Sri Lankan in ODIs.
